World news: Meanwhile, more than 500-thousand households in the North American countries US(United Staates) and Canada are still suffering from power outages, due to the weekend’s severe ice storm.
Utility workers in both countries are working 24-7 to restore electricity, but they warn that some homes could remain without power at least until Saturday. At least 27 deaths in the region have been linked to the storm. Officials say most of the deaths have been caused by carbon monoxide poisoning as some people use gas generators and charcoal stoves to heat their homes in freezing temperatures. A number of U-S states have kept emergency shelters open for people without power. The storm has left as much as two inches of ice in some areas, causing traffic accidents and freezing power lines.
